I am always looking for ways to enhance our stoves efficiency and capacity while being mindful of space and waste. Raw metal comes as sheets, and there are ways to cut and use it to ensure as much of the sheet is used as possible. The prices of steel have tripled in the last 18mo making it very important to minimize waste in how they are cut and assembled. I recently received a request for a longer firebox to accommodate longer logs. So I build a stove with 2 middle sections (we call them doghouses in the shop) TIG welded together. I am very pleased with the results, so going forward we will be offering 4″, 8″, or 12″ extensions for the firebox done in this way. Here is how the 12″ extension stove came out.
